Knights play well, but fall short; Look to rebound tonight

Thursday night saw the Blue Knights taking on the Flaming Moes, the team against which the Knights have earned their one non-forfeit victory. Given this, hopes were high. Things got off to an quick start, as the Blue Knights scored early, with 2 in the first, 5 in the second, and 1 in the third. This was joined by some terrific defense in the outfield, as fly balls kept finding the gloves of outfielders Jim McCurdy and Justin Jones. Unfortunately, the bats slowed down and the Moes began finding grass instead of leather in the outfield. The game was close through 4 innings, but the Moes pulled away in the 5th, and left the mercy rule run on second base in the bottom of the sixth. The game, and perhaps the season, were summed up a bit too well in the top of the seventh, when Larry was thrown out at first base on a ground ball to the left fielder. While it was a tough loss, the team was able to avoid the mercy rule and play a full seven innings for the first time since June 28th, when the team dropped a game 11-10 to the Flaming Moes.

Tonight, Friday the 19th, the Blue Knights have bleak hopes of rebounding from last night’s loss. However, this will be a tough hill to climb. The Knights will take the field against D3’s first place team, Epsilon. Epsilon comes into play with a 9-2 record, having scored a league leading 264 runs (The Blue Knights have scored 98 runs. First pitch will be at 6:40 on the lighted field.
